Hi, I’m Rik Kaminsky, a lifelong adventurer, seasoned professional, and now a proud citizen of the world. I created The Mortgage Nomad to inspire and empower people like you to explore the possibilities of living and working abroad while leveraging the financial tools at your disposal to make it a reality.
Growing up in Canada, I always had a deep appreciation for the comforts of home, but I also felt a pull toward the unknown. My early career took me beyond Canada’s borders, working in the Navy and later in the oilfields of India. Those experiences opened my eyes to the vastness of the world and ignited a wanderlust that’s never quite been satisfied. Yet, for years, family and responsibilities kept me grounded—and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
My Journey So Far
Over the years, I’ve worn many hats. I’ve been a real estate agent, co-founded an oilfield engineering company, launched a solar energy business, mined for gold, and currently work as a business development advisor for a venture capital firm. I’m also a licensed mortgage broker, helping people unlock the equity in their homes to achieve their goals.
Each of these roles taught me something valuable, but they all had one thing in common: they were stepping stones toward building a life of freedom. Now, with my kids grown and the opportunity to embrace a new chapter, I’m ready to fully live the dream I’ve been envisioning for years—exploring this incredible planet we call home.
My ultimate destination is South America, with Ecuador at the top of my list. Its stunning landscapes, welcoming culture, and affordable cost of living make it the perfect place to start the next chapter of my life.
